Frequently asked Questions
Questions we get asked on a regular basis
How do I get a quote for my home EV charger installation?
We believe evaluating a EV installation is best done in person. Many companies will ask you to provide pictures and fill out a survey. However almost all properties have different scenarios in which an installation can be done. This should only be done in person in our opinion.
Am I eligible for the Government grant?
Put it simply yes. Only if you choose a smart charger though. Not all chargers are “smart” thus not meeting this requirement. From the 1st of April however the grant is not longer available for domestic premises only commercial Here are the requirements.
You must have purchased an OZEV-eligible electric car or plug-in hybrid vehicle.
You must have private, off-street parking where a charging cable will not cross a pedestrian pavement.
The charger must be OZEV-approved.
You need to use an OZEV-approved installer such as us.
How much will charging my car increase my electric bill?
not by much you will save a lot of money compared to the cost of fuel. In addition, there are a number of specialist electric car energy tariffs which can save you even more money.
What is “fast charging” ?
Fast charging refers to any vehicles or chargers that are capable of charging from 7kW to 22kW. They can charge the typical Electric Vehicle in around 7 hours, depending on the size of the battery. While the 22kW fast chargers are quicker, they require a 3-phase connection which is unusual at a domestic property.
Can I have an EV point installed?
Most of the time it is a yes. However we will evaluate your properties electrics and see if there is any issues. Most likely in newer homes there is no issue. But dated electrics can effect this and might need updating or modifying before hand. Also You must have private, off-street parking where a charging cable will not cross a pedestrian pavement.
What is “Rapid charging”?
Rapid charging refers to vehicles or chargers that are capable of charging from 43kW to 150kW potentially charging your vehicle in up to an hour. They are not available in domestic properties and are usually located at service stations, cities, and supermarkets, although rapid chargers at fuel stations are expected to become common.
What is tethered and untethered?
Put simply tethered means the charge point comes with a fitted charging lead that is not removable. Untethered meaning you have to supply your own lead when charging.
What is the difference between type1 and type 2 connectors?
For charging at home, Type 1 and Type 2 are the most commonly used connections between the charger and the vehicle. The charging type you will need will be determined by your vehicle. Type 1 connectors are currently used mostly by the Asian car manufacturers such as Nissan and Mitsubishi, while most American and European manufacturers such as Audi, BMW, Renault, Mercedes, VW and Volvo, use Type 2 connectors. Type 2 is the more popular.
